Plant Experience
Detail
Gardenia is not the easiest plant to bring into bloom. In between, they enjoy spending the summer outdoors. Maintain nighttime temperatures of 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and daytime temperatures of 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Gardenia jasminoides must have these temperatures before the buds will form and the plant will flower.
Keep soil evenly moist during the growing season, slightly drier in winter. With gardenia yellow leaves are usually caused by overwatering. Use a pot with a drainage hole and allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Gardenias love humidity. Use a room humidifier or place the pot on a tray of wet pebbles. Mist the leaves frequently. With gardenia care should be taken to mist the foliage, and not the flowers. Gardenia jasminoides likes to grow in humid conditions. Also to help raise humidity, place a bowl of water beside your plant.
